Blogging
A
nyone reading this blog anymore? I've heard from other friends that their blog readership has dropped way down, and my logs seem like they show mostly search engines stopping by. Or is subject matter discussed here just too boring? Discussion comment forms not working? Everyone using RSS these days and not going to the webpages? (RSS is a double-edged sword.) Blah blah blah. Echo!…

ACK. The evil that is RSS and site stats.

  • Zack (Tue, April 14th, 2009, 8:33am UTC)
I browse it via RSS, but I generally come to read the full posts.

I read this fine blog, using NetNewsWire.

Thanks for the responses! I'm sure most everyone who keeps a blog wonders now and then whether they're shouting into an empty theater.

I'm not anti-RSS, but I wonder how it affects reading habits. (I'm a big fan of NetNewsWire.)

Roger: that is a really nice effect on the ambientindustries page.

    Hi Jeff,

    reading this through Google Reader.
According to Google Reader's stat page they have currently 37 subscribers for your blog.

  • Andy T (Tue, April 14th, 2009, 4:58pm UTC)
One more Google Reader follower here. I also generally follow the link to the full post.

Using NNW here. I was hoping for more feedback on your new dev machine, but I didn't have anything to add, really. I read the whole post maybe 50% of the time it seems looking back. In general, I think your posts are informative, but not controversal enough to generate a lot of comments. Probably better that way!

    Another Google Reader follower here.

  • John (Wed, April 15th, 2009, 10:01pm UTC)
    I never read this blog.

Thanks for more feedback! I'll keep yammering as I find inspiration (flying low, under John's radar). I have some more blog experiments I want to try also, so hopefully by this summer I get some of them going. I'm going to try to be better about leaving comments on the blogs of others too. Copious. free. time.

Btw, if anyone notices that this blog looks particularly bad in certain browsers / platforms, let me know. I only found out the other day that FireFox users with versions less than 3.1 weren't seeing the text and image shadowing effects, though the rounded corners do show up. And I'm not sure what breaks on the various IEs, though I have no way of testing against them.

(Hi, Andy! We have calc homework due soon? — hopefully I have the right Andy and that made sense)

Google Reader here. During last weeks I'm spending more time following Twitter than reading/following RSS. (don't blame me :) Anyway I'll continue read you. P.S. Looks fine with Camino 2.0b2

I just bookmarked your blog, I hope some new posts are coming.

  • Jeff (Mon, July 20th, 2009, 3:06pm UTC)
New posts: they are coming. I'm in the middle of moving my server to a friend's Xserve, so I've tried to put a freeze on my sites until the move is over, hopefully this week. Pardon the temporary stagnation. The new server will also let me try some new experiments as well.
