Living
O
k, looks like I'm not going anywhere for a while now and it's time to get a move on a lot of things going into the fall and winter. Not looking forward to the cold weather, but very much looking forward to getting things done. Most things pre my recent vacation were all about getting the iPhone programs I did with Andrew into solid shape. I'm very proud of them both. We got in the last of the really big updates before I left. During vacation my mind was a complete blank on all things work-wise. I did discover how good the oysters are in Vancouver. Still miss the great "sea" food out west. Perhaps I'll live out that way at some point. Who knows.

Ok, some general work-related goals…
  • I have a good number of iPhone app ideas that are in various stages. I need to focus on a small number (2?) of them and just start working. After the vacation it's been hard to get back into the zone, but I'm almost back in the game.
  • My web app framework needs to move into its next generation cycle. The current API needs a short review and then I need to dive into the structural changes, perhaps even a short whitepaper to keep things clear. Then I want to code up at least two engines, one in Python 3k and one in Objective-C, for use with various scripting languages.
  • With the arrival of the latest Snow Leopard release, it's time I dove back into that side of Mac development, especially into the land of OpenCL and GCD along with the new changes to Obj-C.
  • I'd love to start serving from a newer x86-based Mac if I can find a reasonably-priced host or a way to put in a faster line from here. I guess that really means finding a remote host with better uptime and line speeds. Suggestions?
  • I've got a series of books on computational physics that need some love. No idea what direction they may take me in.
  • A couple of websites in development with others that I dare not speak their names just yet, but they could use some fleshing out.

  • Research-related goals…
  • I've been making good progress on my romp thru the 20th-century philosophy of physics/science/technology and want to make it from the '60s into the '80s by this spring. That may be unrealistic, but it's a goal.
  • My readings on medieval science and philosophy has been going great too, competing for much of my time lately.
  • I want to get some of my more informal ideas on quantum theory down onto paper this winter too. I've been pretty lazy on this front because the details can get bone dry in a hurry, but I'd like to get it behind me to get on with the more interesting stuff. That and these ideas won't remain original indefinitely.

  • In addition, I have a bunch of music and health-related goals that I just have to somehow figure out when I can schedule regular periods of time or I'll never get anywhere on. Argh. Not enough hours in the day. Though that's not really true in some sense. I squander too many of them as it is. It's a matter of keeping my mood and energy levels up. Sadly, staring at monitors is the most destructive to both for me. Sad, given my vocation. I need to take regular walks and not start each day checking the news and email, etc.

I'm sure there's lots more that I'm forgetting.
